Search engine optimization is a new and interesting profession. Basically (in a few keywords or less) it is a person who changes your website to be more acceptable to the search engines and their algorithms. Every one knows that once you build a website it does not instantly means success. Too bad eh? Well most web designs are fantastic and some plain old suck. But what makes the sucky ones show up faster in the search engines or rank higher with in a search engine? Well for one thing, maybe the sucky website has a better implementation of "keywords" or better use of "Meta Data". Huh? I can hear you grumble..
Ready? Listen.. OK here goes.

Search engines have programmed spiders that follow a given path, meaning they are programmed to go to a list of webpages and determine what that web page has to offer to the search engine and whether it makes sense for the search engine to even display what's on that website. Now Spiders do not usually go through all your pages. They generally go to which ever page was submitted and "Spider" that page. There are some people who think that the spider goes X amount of links from that page in any direction. Possible I can only speculate.

The spider indexes your page, and records the title, the headings, the first paragraph, the keywords, and maybe the description. So Mr.Smartypants does your website have all this? Or will your website be one of the ones the spider passed along as having nothing relevant?

This is a subject people pay lots of money for.. " We promise to get you to the 1st spot within 3 days for only 100000.00 " <LOL> Hey unless he/she works for that search engine I doubt it. Basically the SEO people do know what they are doing... well most of them. They pay attention to the changes at the search engines and watch for new and improved tactics and try to stay ahead of the rest. Hrm no wonder they are all driving Mercedes benz's.

Hey can I do it myself without paying all the big bucks to a SEO specialist? Sure.. I've been doing it for myself and my clients ( but I'm a SEO guru ). I can help you with a few simple ideas:
- Content is king
Great content and good keyword strategies will always help you achieve your goals.
- Good keywords
Good keywords that relate to your site are a key way to making it to the search engine.
- A bit of cash money
Yes, cash is still king. Most of the search engines like Yahoo, and a bunch of others are starting a Pay per Insertion. Yahoo charges 199.99 per business link.
- A solid marketing Plan
Decide on a theme site and follow through with a effective marketing plan to get the search engines to say " my what a great site we have to list this one".

Now start submitting to the search engines and wait a bit.. could take from 2 weeks to 6 months to be indexed.. Oh well that's the price of getting something for free..

Now you cannot hold me liable.. just cause I own Yahoo.. <lol> J/K

I do not own Yahoo.. but most of the sites I have built are listed there.. guess that means something in the end.
