»»» Dreamweaver MX, why should I upgrade?

If you’ve used any type of WYSIWYG application to edit or build web pages you’ve more then likely heard of dreamweaver by macromedia.com. It’s a fantastic application that makes design web pages fun, interesting and professional.

Dreamweaver has grown up tremendously since the old versions and now has some serious functionality that makes it a powerful web building application. From code view to design view macromedia has thought out MX with the designer in mind. With compatabilty for serverside markup langauages such as CFML, ASP, and now PHP dreamweaver MX is a designers ultimate weapon.

Some of the new items MM has added to the latest MX version that I love are the snippets panel/pallet which is a place you can store small code sinppets and drag and drop onto your web page anytime you want from form snippets to table elements the snippets panel is fantastic. Dreamweaver MX is shipped with over 200 snippets and you can also find a growing collection of snippets just by searching at google.com.

Dreamweaver MX is a mixture of dreamweaver ( design ) and ultradev ( database ) this is why it makes such a powerful tool. It’s geared at both designers and programmers which previous versions did not accomplish.

Dreamweaver MX also give you the ability to use extensions. The Macromedia Exchange ( macromedia.com/extensions ) for Dreamweaver is your resource for accessing easy-to-install extensions, learning how to get the most out of them, and even creating your own.

Extensions allow you to easily add new features to Dreamweaver or dreamweaver MX. Each extension has its own page that includes the extension, a short description, user reviews, and a discussion group where you can post questions and get support for an extension.

There are extensions that let you simply doing many complex things with one click, such as filler text:

This copy is used for placement only. It is not meant to be read. Designers use this to show clients how copy would look if it was inserted. This copy is used for placement only. I was able to drop in this designers text with one mouse click. I love to work smart and dreamweaver MX extensions let me do so.

These are only 2 small aspects of dreamweaver MX’s new functionality. There are few applcations out on the market that fill Dreamweavers shoes. So if your debating upgrading to the MX version of dreamweaver or even thinking about which WYSIWYG program to purchase — Dreamweaver MX is the only choice to professional and smart design.

Until next time.. Have fun
