Here is a tutorial to create a plastic buttons with gradient tools, which pretty much have the same technique with Adobe Image Styler had. It's quite simple tho...so give it a try :) There are some smooth steps that you should know from prev tutorial. Have fun :)
If you have any question, don't hesitate to ask me....I would love to help :) Enjoy

1) Create a new layer and a new button....mine...fig 1, then SMOOTH it (fig 2)

Fig 1                                                                          Fig 2

2) Ctrl+click that layer, then give a gradient () effect on it. Select a color and set the foreground color and background color with the darker and lighter shade of that color (fig3)....the result (fig4).

Now without losing the selection after applying the gradient go to Select > Modify > Contract
(I used 5 pixels)....(fig 5).

Then feather it by go to Select > Feather (I used 4 pixels ). Anyway the amount you need to contract and feather the selection will vary from the size of your button.

3) Then with the selection still loaded, create a new layer on top of the current layer. Then set the foreground color to white then change your gradient option to "foreground to transparent" (fig 6) then apply a vertical gradient starting from the top of the selection to the center of the bar or button. (fig7)

                           Fig 6                                                              Fig 7

4) Then deselect...ctrl+D.

pretty nice, isn't it ??
