OK start with an image, your choice. I would advise something with a nice color scheme. |

Grab the single column marquise tool and make a verticle selection, your choice. In a place where there is a good color range.

Control+C (copy) ---

Control+N (new) Once the New window pops up, you already have your correct Height Attribute, now change the Width to a decent width in pixels.
Hit ok or Enter. |

In your new window, hit Control+V (paste) Does it look like this? great.
Here comes the fun part. |

Go to EDIT>FREE TRANSFORM

While holding the Shift button down, drag either Left or Right of the 1 pixel selection we pasted into the new window. You will start to see your lines grow.
